STEM Coach Brock Rhodes explained, "It's a right of passage, a chance to show leadership skills, and an opportunity to enrich the lives of others. Through these acts of service, students really develop a sense of ownership of the outdoor classroom."
This is the philosophy behind 6th-grade students at Claypool, a STEM-certified elementary school, getting out in nature with tools and determination to tackle the summer growth and tame the wild. Students donned their gear and headed out in the morning and afternoon with the guidance of their STEM Coach and 6th-grade teachers Jacob Peattie and John Shively.
Together, paths were cleared, trash was collected, and a space for learning was once again established for 2021-2022. A full year of STEM lessons and experiences in the outdoor classroom is planned for students from K-6.
Thank you to all who made this incredible opportunity to live the mission possible!
Our mission is to inspire and equip all students to continuously acquire and apply knowledge and skills while pursuing their dreams and enriching the lives of others.
