Experience and Inclusivity

Forget Princess, I Want to be an Engineer! was held on Thursday, Nov. 10.

53 7th and 8th grade girls and 16 women engineers from the Society for Women Engineers (SWE) participated in this event. SWE sponsored the activity.  Teams of 1 engineer and 4-5 students were tasked with designing safety features to protect two eggs from getting smashed in their vehicle, which was raced down a steep hill and crashed into a cement block.  Students were given a small bag of supplies with which to protect their fragile passengers.  As part of the event, all participants received a t-shirt and snacks. This event provided the students with the opportunity to interact with a mentor and to consider what careers in engineering could include.  Thanks to the Society for Women Engineers and Mrs. Richcreek for giving our students this opportunity!
