Students in 8th grade U.S. History have spent the week in the year 1787 at the Constitutional Convention! Compromising on a brand new government can be a very difficult task, but students were able to successfully determine if the United States would elect or appoint representatives, how states would be represented in Congress, and how long a term should be for POTUS! Students really enjoyed being able to argue their opinion as a delegate and refute their counterparts point-of-view. ExperienceWCS

Mrs. Fisher and Mr. Holz combined their 7th grade social studies classes for an energetic Silk Road trading activity. Students listened to Miss Shafer, a student from Grace College, present some background information about the Silk Road and then they were divided into teams representing China, Central Asia, India, Persia, Turkey, and Rome with the goal of trading with each other to make as much profit as possible. They had to figure out how to buy and sell and even barter. The trick was that Rome and China couldn't travel along the road, so they had to get the other teams to trade with them in order to get their goods to the other end of the road. At the end they had to calculate the value of their items and their remaining coins to see which team made the most profit. #ExperienceWCS

Warsaw FFA hosted the annual Chapter Meeting Contest. This contest is centered around Robert's Rules of Order. Participants have 16 minutes and 30 seconds to conduct an official Chapter Meeting. During this time, the team recites the Official FFA opening ceremonies, present a secretary and treasurers report, conduct new business where they discuss local events and up to 4 debatable motions, and conduct the official FFA closing ceremonies and pledge of allegiance. Following the presentation a panel of 6 judges will ask a series of questions regarding parliamentary procedure. Judges have the power to interrupt contestants at any time throughout the contest to entertain a new motion. Several Edgewood students participated. Congratulations on a job well done! #ExperienceWCS

Happening in the 8th grade Introduction to Agriculture class with Mrs. Kelsheimer:
Before Thanksgiving break, students in the 8th grade agriculture class created complex business plans. They practiced the basic steps required to plan, start and run their own agriculture-centered business. They have worked hard to write the perfect sales pitch and make complex business plans!
On Monday, they drew a detailed blueprint of their operation. Today, they practiced the welding skills they learned in the power, structure and technology unit and made their business come to life! Students used common kitchen ingredients to build 3D models of their business blueprints. The models were both impressive and delicious!

Thank you, Lexi Gribble, for coming from Indianapolis to brainstorm with some of our National History Day (NHD) students! #ExperienceWCS #IndianaHistoricalSociety
