Outstanding job to all of our spelling bee participants today. A special, "way to go," to our Washington Spelling Bee champion and runner-up. Your perseverance and hard work paid off. The boys will go on to compete in the city-wide spelling bee in January at Lakeview Middle School. Congratulations, Aarav and Caleb! You inspire us! #WarsawInspires

SANTA!! We know him! Santa made his annual visit to our Washington Hornets and their families at the annual Breakfast with Santa sponsored by our "elftastic" PTO. The Hornets have been super good this year. They enjoyed meeting Santa and eating breakfast together as a family. 18 more sleeps until our jolly St. Nick makes his rounds. Keep being good Hornets. #WarsawInspires

Washington 2nd graders dissected grasshoppers this week. They learned about the internal and external anatomy. Students were able to see the crop, stomach, and some had eggs! Thank you to Mrs. Gough's high school dissection class for leading the lab!

We are grateful for the dedication and support of our Special Ed staff. They help create learning environments so that all children can reach their full potential. Their compassion, patience, and understanding of unique learning is truly inspiring! We'd like to give a heartfelt thank you for all that you do! #WarsawInspires

We had the most fun today! Pajama day, parades, and turkey crowns are just a few of the fun things on the agenda today. The PTO spoiled the staff with a dessert bar. What a great way to kick off Thanksgiving break. We wish all of our Hornet families a safe and happy holiday. We are thankful for all of you. Thank you for sharing your time, talents, and most of all your kids with us. Happy Thanksgiving! #WarsawInspires

Washington 2nd graders created Thanksgiving Parade floats using Sphero Indis and BeeBots. Both use screenless coding to program their robot to drive around a specific parade route. Kindergarten, 1st, and 3rd grade all enjoyed watching the parade and were treated to some suckers! #WarsawInspires

Students have explored and engineered with Lego simple machines that focus on solving problems and creating unique playground equipment for our school. Using the engineering design process, students helped develop their own playground equipment model based on their observations and discussions of equipment. This week, they enjoyed presenting and explaining their models to the class.

In this season of gratitude, we want to say how thankful we are for our substitute teachers at Washington. Some of them have a personal connection to our school, while others simply love children and helping them learn. WCS has current openings for sub positions. If you love inspiring children to reach new heights, making a difference, and having a flexible work schedule that adapts to your needs, would you consider joining our team? We would love to have you! #WarsawInspires

One student can make a big difference! On Monday, Brooklyn enjoyed a day as our principal for raising just over $1,000 for the Hornet Hike. Brooklyn enjoyed greeting students, passing out treats to teachers, and many of the fun aspects of running the school. We are so grateful for Brooklyn and her heart for others! #WarsawInspires

Washington 4th graders are dissecting frogs this week. Thank you to Mrs. Gough's High School Dissection class for leading the lab. Students opened up frog stomachs and found beetles and fish inside!! Students also learned what kind of careers would require taking dissection classes.

Generous living is the Hornet way! Washington's Student Council hosted their annual Food Drive last week. We collected a total of 2,412 items!! All items were boxed up and picked up by Combined Community Services -- a non-profit organization that exists to provide hope and resources to families in need. Thank you, Washington families, for your generosity and willingness to help those in need! We are grateful to be able to collect and donate these much needed items. #WarsawInspires

Friday, our kindergarten students had an exciting visit from a local firefighter! They learned about when to call 911, where to find fire alarms, and what items are safe to play with. They also discovered the importance of knowing their home address. It was an unforgettable day of learning and fun! 🚒👨🚒

Third-grade students are transforming their written personal narratives into interactive coding projects using Scratch Jr. with Mr. Pike. Through this activity, they learned to bring their stories to life by creating animations and sequences, connecting literacy with coding fundamentals. Such a fun way to blend storytelling with technology! #WarsawInspires
