As Indiana prepares for another significant solar eclipse on April 8, 2024, Warsaw Community Schools (WCS) is eager to ensure that students experience this event safely and informatively while at school.
Building on our successful eclipse viewing initiative in 2017, WCS will provide essential resources, including 6,700 American Astronomical Society (AAS) approved solar glasses, thanks to the generous support from the Zimmer Biomet Foundation.
The eclipse will start with the partial eclipse beginning at 1:53 PM EST, reaching its maximum at 3:09 PM EST, and concluding by 4:24 PM EST. These moments offer a unique educational opportunity, and WCS has prepared special lesson activities for our buildings to engage in while preparing for the event.
Families wishing for their children to observe the eclipse from home are kindly asked to notify their respective schools.
While the eclipse's total phase will last approximately 3 minutes, WCS urges families and community members to exercise caution and use approved solar viewing glasses when looking at the sun during this event.
