Lakeview Students Represent Warsaw Schools at Indiana State Civics Bee

WARSAW, IN - On June 23, two Lakeview Middle School students, Haylee Fletcher and Cecilia King, represented Warsaw Community Schools (WCS) at the National Civics Bee Indiana State Finals. Fourteen students from across Indiana gathered at the Indiana War Memorial in Indianapolis to compete, demonstrating their civic knowledge through multiple rounds of challenging questions focused on government, citizenship, history and civic engagement.
Haylee and Cecilia earned the opportunity to compete at the state level after submitting essays through their Honors English classes, advancing through a panel review process and placing in the local National Civics Bee competition held earlier this year at the Warsaw Community High School (WCHS) Performing Arts Center. After two rounds of competition, Cecilia found herself tied for fifth place and advanced to a tiebreaker for a chance to compete in the final round. She narrowly missed advancing by just one point.
"It was inspiring to see these students push beyond curricular expectations and use their writing to try something new," said April Boggs, English Language Arts teacher at Lakeview Middle School. "Both girls presented their ideas to a panel of community judges at the local level. The courage that requires is astounding. They continued to study and prepare beyond the school year for this state-level competition and represented Lakeview and WCS so well."
Warsaw Schools congratulates Haylee and Cecilia on this outstanding accomplishment and for representing their school and district with excellence.
